Member representing Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Wanzam Mohammed Zaki, has passed away following a brief illness.
The Nation reports that the lawmaker died in the early hours of Sunday in Bauchi, bringing to an end a legislative career marked by service to his constituency and the state.
Until his death, Zaki was the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, a position through which he played a significant role in budget scrutiny and legislative oversight.
Confirming the development, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the deceased as a dedicated legislator and committed public servant.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker announced the lawmaker’s death and prayed for the repose of his soul.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I announce the passing of Hon. Mohammad Wanzam, member representing Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
Meanwhile funeral prayers for the deceased was held at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque, Bauchi, yesterday.
Governor Bala Mohammed also mourned the late lawmaker, describing his death as a painful loss to Bauchi State and its political community.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said the late legislator distinguished himself through diligence, patriotism and a strong commitment to public service.
He noted that Zaki’s contributions, particularly as Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, helped strengthen legislative oversight and support policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
“We have lost a dependable legislator, a bridge-builder and a man whose humility and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and the admiration of the people,” the governor said.
The governor also extended condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Sakwa Constituency, the Katagum Emirate Council, members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and all those affected by the loss. (The Nation)
