Dr. Obiageli Uchegbu, who is the permanent secretary for the Anambra state ministry of information, has chided information officers in the ministry for shirking their duties and responsibilities.
The deliquent information officers, who work in MDAs and local government areas in the state, were summoned to the Jerome Udorji civil service secretariat headquarters, Awka for reprimand on June 18, 2026.
During her interaction with the workers, the Anambra state ministry of information permanent secretary berated them for not carrying out their duties, and reminded them of the consequences they would face for playing truant.
"I will pin your salaries if you fail to work. If you don't want to work, you should tender your resignation, and leave the service, honourably.
"It is disingenuous of you to receive monthly salaries when you don't work," Uchegbu said.
Earlier, the Acting Director of Information in the ministry, Mr. Emma Ikegwuani, said that punitive measures were not used to beat the erring officers into line for some reasons
He said that the Anambra State Ministry of Information had chosen to give the erring officers reprimand and re-orient them on their duties and responsibilities, instead.
"We summoned you here to remind you of what we require you to do.
"You should submit a minimum of two news reports in each week and participate in liking, commenting on, and sharing of all the ministry's news reports.
"We summoned you here to hear the reasons why you failed to carry out your duties. That's why we did not give you query," Ikegwuani said.
More so, the duo of Regina Igwebuike and Joseph Obunse, who are top editors in the Anambra State Ministry of Information, gave the information officers tutelage on how they should write news reports, which have succinctness and clarity.
