France defeated Senegal 3-1 in a thrilling World Cup Group I clash after a powerful second-half display.
Senegal began strongly, troubling France with quick attacks and intense pressing during a lively opening period.
France dominated possession but struggled to create clear chances as Senegal defended with discipline.
The match changed after the break when France increased their tempo and attacked with greater purpose.
Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring for France in the 66th minute with a clinical finish.
Bradley Barcola doubled France’s advantage in the 82nd minute after Senegal’s defence was stretched.
Senegal fought back and Ibrahim Mbaye pulled one goal back in the 90th minute plus five.
Mbappé completed France’s victory by scoring again in the 90th minute plus six.
By so doing, the Real Madrid forward has become France's all-time record scorer, overtaking Giroud in the record books with his 58th goal for Les Bleus, aged just 27. The previous record of 57 was held by former Arsenal star Olivier Giroud.
The result secured France a winning start, while Senegal were punished for their second-half collapse.
