The graduating inmates
Suspected serial killer in Ibadan, Sunday Sodipe, and over 100 other inmates of the Agodi Correctional Centre have graduated from the School Transformation Programme (STP) and The Prison Journey (TPJ) courses organised by the Prison Fellowship Nigeria (PFN), Oyo State chapter.
Sodipe was a prime suspect in a string of ritual killings in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Recall that the suspected serial killer, who was arrested on July 11, 2020, escaped from police custody in Mokola, Ibadan, on August 11 before he was rearrested on August 23, 2020.
The graduation ceremony, held on Tuesday at the facility in Ibadan, marked the completion of intensive discipleship and character reformation for the beneficiaries.
The inmates, who could not hide their joy at the graduation ceremony held at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan, were seen dancing during a praise and worship session led by a team of singers.
Speaking at the event, Chairman, PFN Oyo State chapter, Prophet Boyede Sule, said the STP/TPJ programmes were designed to equip inmates with biblical values, life skills, and hope for reintegration after release.
He noted that the courses focus on transformation, forgiveness and responsible citizenship.
Boyede added that the course is also organised for the spiritual restoration of inmates.
He, however, reiterated PFN’s commitment to reaching more inmates with programmes that restore dignity and promote societal reintegration.
The Oyo PFN chairman also urged the graduands to become ambassadors of change while urging Nigerian youths to desist from activities that could lead them to prison.
“The 8 weeks programme is organised for the spiritual restoration ,restoration of dignity and promote societal reintegration of the inmates
“The courses were designed to equip inmates with biblical values, life skills and hope for reintegration after release.
“ My advise to Nigerian youths is to disengage from any act that can lead them to prison , if Nigeria is to be our future, our future must not be dented , our future must start on a very solid rock , for Nigeria to be good, I am seeing Nigeria youths as potential leaders by being a good and abiding citizens of Nigeria “
The Oyo State Chaplain, Nigeria Correctional Service, Reverend Sunday Odekunle, commended Prison Fellowship Nigeria for complementing government efforts in inmate rehabilitation.
He stated that the programme will help inmates become better persons after their release.
Meanwhile, during the event, family members, correctional officers and church volunteers witnessed the ceremony, and certificates were presented to the graduands amidst prayers and songs of praise. (Nigerian Tribune)
