Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has charged police officers in the state to remain professional and neutral in the discharge of their duties, particularly during next year’s general election.
“I will be the last person to tell the police to go and rig elections for me. I will never do that,’’ Sule said during a security meeting at the Nasarawa State Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, the state capital.
He said the police and other security agencies should pay attention to protecting all voters during the polls rather than victimising those against his candidacy.
‘’I will be sad if you protect other people and victimise people of the APC. I plead with you to be as neutral as you can while protecting everybody,” the governor stated.to address concerns among police officers over the proposed state police, assuring them that there was no cause for panic.
He explained that the process was still at its early stages as it requires constitutional amendment, delineation of jurisdiction and powers, recruitment and funding before it could take effect.
“There is no reason for any policeman to panic. This is a process that has just commenced and may not even take full effect within the one year I have left in office. I want you to work full swing. Do not relax,” he said. (The Nation)
