Rangers International FC, Ilechukwu right
Rangers International FC of Enugu State have extended the contract of head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, ending speculation surrounding the future of the highly rated tactician.
Ilechukwu guided the Flying Antelopes to their second Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) title in three years.
The triumph took Rangers’ league title tally to nine, drawing them level with Enyimba FC as the most successful clubs in Nigerian football history.
Following the title-winning campaign, several clubs were reportedly interested in luring away Ilechukwu, popularly known as the “Sabi Coach.”
The speculation prompted Rangers’ General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, to insist that the club’s prized asset was not for sale.
The club on Saturday announced that Ilechukwu has signed a contract extension.
In a statement posted on its social media platforms, Rangers said, “Building on what we’ve started. Our Technical Adviser has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension ahead of the new season.
“New season. Same belief. Greater ambitions. Congratulations, Sabi. Good to have you on board as we continue the journey together. The journey continues.”
Ilechukwu secured Rangers’ ninth NPFL title after his side defeated Ikorodu City FC 2–1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on the final day of the 2025/2026 season.
Rangers, alongside Rivers United, will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The extension is expected to provide stability as the Flying Antelopes seek to defend their league crown and mount a strong challenge for continental honours. (Channels TV)
