CNPP denies rejecting postponement of Ondo governorship election

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) on Thursday denied rejecting calls for the postponement of this Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election, saying it has no Acting National Publicity Secretary in the name of Veteran Olawale Okunniyi.

According to a statement personally signed by the National Chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, the Conference noted that its Acting National Publicity Secretary is Dr. Yunusa Tanko, who is the current National Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP).

The CNPP is the umbrella body of all political parties and associations in Nigeria.

The statement reads: “The attention of the national secretariat of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has been drawn to media reports that the Conference has rejected calls for the postponement of the Ondo State Governorship election, quoting one Veteran Olawale Okunniyi as our Acting National Publicity Secretary.

“For avoidance of doubt, the Acting National Publicity of the CNPP is the current National Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr. Yunusa Tanko.

“Any other individual claiming to be the Acting National Publicity Secretary should be disregarded by the general public and the media.

“The CNPP remains committed the promotion of democracy in Nigeria and will never support any action that will not promote a level playing ground for all political parties.

“Therefore, the CNPP cannot reject a popular demand by majority of the stakeholders in Ondo governorship election.”
