Gov Alia
By EMMANUEL ANTSWEN
Gov. Hyacinth Alia has named the civil servants’ housing estate at Welfare Quarters, Makurdi, after the late Head of Service (HoS), Dr Agbogbo Ode.
Alia declared Thursday a work-free day for civil servants to enable them to attend the burial of the late HoS, who died on May 2.
Alia made the declaration during a valedictory session held in honour of the late Ode on Wednesday in Makurdi.
The governor said the naming of the estate after the deceased would serve as a lasting tribute for his contributions to the development of the state’s civil service.
He described Ode as a patriot, reformer, and key contributor to the administration’s governance reforms.
The grieving governor said that the death of HoS was a personal loss to him, the State Executive Council, the government, and the people of Benue.
Alia stated that Ode played a vital role in strengthening the civil service and implementing government policies.
He recalled appointing Ode strictly on merit after reviewing several profiles, despite having no prior personal relationship with him.
Alia said the late administrator quickly aligned with the administration’s vision and became instrumental in driving reforms with discipline, patriotism, and commitment.
The governor praised Ode as hard-working, dependable, and dedicated to the progress of the state, adding that he consistently delivered on assignments and exceeded expectations.
He urged citizens to appreciate and celebrate dedicated public servants while they are alive, stressing the importance of recognising excellence in service.
Assuring the bereaved family of government support, Alia pledged that the state government would stand by them during this difficult period. (NAN)
