Agada Abuh Theophilus
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Agada Abuh Theophilus, a vocal critic of the party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi, as its Director of New Media and Strategic Communications.
The appointment was announced alongside that of Brian Dennis, who will serve as Deputy Director of New Media and Strategic Communications.
The NDC, in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the appointments form part of efforts to strengthen its digital operations and media engagement strategy ahead of future political activities.
Theophilus has become a familiar voice in Nigeria’s political space since the 2023 presidential election, frequently using social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to criticise Obi, the Obidient Movement and some of the positions advanced by the former Anambra State governor’s supporters.
He has consistently challenged Obi’s political messaging and questioned the structure and direction of the Obidient movement since the conclusion of the 2023 polls.
According to the NDC, Theophilus brings extensive experience in political communications, corporate brand management, and public relations.
The party said he is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Communications with a specialisation in strategic communication for social and institutional development, and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on election administration and management.
The statement further described Dennis as a communications analyst with seven years of experience in strategic and political communications. He holds a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution.
“The party is excited to welcome both appointees and looks forward to the energy, expertise and fresh perspective they bring to its communications efforts. The NDC is confident that their leadership will strengthen the party’s voice and deepen its engagement with Nigerians across every platform,” the statement said.
The appointments come as political parties continue to reposition their media and digital engagement structures ahead of the 2027 general election. (TRIBUNE)
