Benue State Gov Hyacinth Alia
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State are growing increasingly anxious over the continued delay by the party’s national secretariat in releasing results of primaries for senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats.
The state chapter had earlier declared former Governor Gabriel Suswam and Abel Terseer winners of the Benue North and Benue North West senatorial districts respectively, while Agbo Ottah was returned for Benue South. However, incumbent Senators Titus Zam and Emmanuel Memga Udende Jika filed petitions backed by video and audio evidence, shifting the matter to an Appeal Panel at APC national headquarters in Abuja.
The vacuum has fuelled social media speculation, with purported lists of primary winners circulating online and stoking tensions between camps loyal to Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Party stakeholders are calling on the national leadership to release the final list without further delay. (The Nation)
