No legislation may be entirely perfect but the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Act could be such robust, practical, and acceptable to all its critical stakeholders, says Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed Mallam Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs.
Ambassador Mallam Madori who was speaking Monday, June 8th, 2026t at a Stakeholders’ Meeting on repealing/reenacting the 2019 Nigeria Police Trust Fund told his audience that through frank, constructive, and solution-oriented discussions, arriving at positions that will strengthen the Bill and enhance the capacity of the Trust Fund to fulfil its mandate was not farfetched.
Speaking before the meeting went into a closed-door session, Ambassador Mallam Madori explained that the Senate Committee has resolved to focus on two key provisions “which, in our view, are fundamental to the effective administration and sustainability of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund”. The decision, he also said, did not mean the Committee has preference for any stakeholder or institution, but rather from a commitment to ensuring that the governance structure of the Trust Fund promotes accountability, transparency, efficiency, and effective service delivery to the Nigeria Police Force.
“Our objective is to foster consensus and arrive at solutions that will strengthen the institution and advance the overall interests of policing in Nigeria rather than preference for any particular sections of the bill.
Not only were nearly all members of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs at the meeting, The IGP, Tunji Disu, arrived for the meeting with several DIG and other members of the Police Management team. The stakeholders’ meeting is coming less than a week after a Public Hearing on the Police Trust Fund on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026,
Being his first visit to the National Assembly as IGP, Ambassador Mallam Madori congratulated the 23rd IGP of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, calling his appointment a clear testament to his career in intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
