The Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (FA), Chikelue Iloenyosi, popularly known as De General, has commended the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for selecting Awka Township Stadium as a hosting point for the Quarter-Final match of the President Federation Cup between Barau FC and Ikorodu City.
Iloenyosi, who gave the commendation in Awka on Monday, urged sports lovers and football enthusiasts across the state to come out in their numbers to witness the exciting derby scheduled for Thursday, 11th June, 2026 by 4pm at the Awka Township Stadium.
He cited that the recent hosting of a match between Nasarawa United and Rivers United in Awka on Saturday, 6th June, 2026 has demonstrated the growing confidence in Anambra as a viable venue for national football competitions.
According to him, the matches will help the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration curb insecurity and other social vices as teeming youths will be engaged watching the matches at the stadium.
While thanking the new Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha-Mba, for his unwavering efforts and support towards the development of the round leather game in the state, Iloenyosi said, "Anambra FA has the capacity to collaborate with the sports ministry to drive the football sector to the height where budding talents in the grassroots will be identified and utilized.
