Party denies calling for postponement of Ondo governorship election

The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) on Tuesday distanced itself from the call by 20 political parties for the postponement of the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.

The party in a terse statement by its national chairman and presidential candidate in the 2015 general election, Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima said contrary to reports the ACPN “did not participate in the press conference nor do we have any cause to seek for the postponement of the Ondo governorship election.”

About 20 political parties in Nigeria had demanded the shifting of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), citing security reasons.

The parties made the demand after an emergency meeting held at the National Headquarters of Labour Party.
It was reported that among the 20 parties who signed the text of the joint press conference read by the National Chairman of LP, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, include African Democratic Congress; Allied Congress Party of Nigeria; Democratic Peoples Congress; National Conscience Party and Progressive Peoples Alliance.

Others are Advanced Congress of Democrats; Peoples Redemption Party; United Peoples Party; Peoples Progressive Party; Peoples Party of Nigeria; Independent Democrats and Better Nigeria Progressive Party.

But Galadima said ACPN was not at the press conference.

He said: “I write to state categorically that the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) did not participate in the conference nor do we have any cause to seek for the postponement of the Ondo governorship election.”

According to him, the call for the postponement of the Ondo State Governorship election was unripe.

“I shall be grateful if this rejoinder is published to clear the wrong impression the call for postponement will create to our party members and the public,” Galadima stated.
