The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to address grievances arising from its recent primary elections.
A statement on Sunday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, said the decision was part of a sweeping set of resolutions released following the party’s Second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The statement emphasised that the party is actively transitioning into a long-term institutionalised body rather than a temporary political vehicle.
The newly formed National Reconciliation Committee has been tasked with tracking down and appeasing members who felt marginalized or aggrieved during the party’s primaries. Internal contestations often leave parties divided, and the NDC’s leadership is moving swiftly to ensure a united front.
To tackle corruption and ensure financial probity, the party is also introducing aggressive tracking of campaign funds.
The party warned that strict accountability will be enforced regarding the management of resources by party officers.
According to the statement, for candidates vying for office across local, state, zonal, and national levels, a mandatory financial disclosure policy is now in place.
It said, ‘’All campaign donations, including personal monies sourced by candidates or contributions made to their campaigns, must be fully disclosed to the party. Furthermore, the NEC ruled that these funds must be routed through dedicated party campaign accounts, including specific presidential and governorship campaign accounts.
“At all times, and for all candidates and aspirants, total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest.” (Daily Trust)
