The police in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, has banned all rallies in the state until further notice. It also placed a ban on conferences, seminars, workshops and other public gatherings.
The decision to place a ban on any form of rally in the state was informed by the violence that broke out after a rally held last week Saturday at Murtala Square by the Arewa Youth Forum.
Kaduna Police Commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike, said the decision was taken at the Security Council meeting held yesterday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House.
According to Adenaike, the ban is with immediate effect and indefinite.
He emphasised that anyone holding any public function henceforth must applyfor permit and such application would be properly scrutinized before approval is granted.
