Seven persons have lost their lives, while others suffered varying degrees of injuries, in a road accident that occurred at Elewi-Odo bus stop in Ibadan North East local government area of Oyo state on Tuesday
Also, a mother alongside her two children are receiving medical attention for the injuries sustained.
Confirming the incident, the state Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kehinde Dahunsi, said the survivors are receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Eyewitness account reveals that the accident involved two trucks and two Micras.
The vehicles were heading towards the Ojoo end of the expressway at the time the accident occurred.
An eyewitness said, “What happened was that the trailer behind the Micra suddenly lost it break while the one ahead of the Micra was negotiating the junction to its office.
‘However, the truck ran over the Micra, which resulted in the death of seven people.
“The woman who sustained injuries with her twins were quickly rushed to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, the state Sector Commandant, Dahunsi, while confirming the incident, said, “Yes, it was true. I just left the scene of the accident.
“We went there to carry out the rescue. The accident involved two trailers and two Micra. It was a case of brake failure. One of the trailers was trying to negotiate the turning to his company with Micra behind, but unfortunately, the trailer behind the Micra lost control and ran over them.
“Seven people died on the spot, and we were able to rescue a woman and her twins. They have been rushed to UCH for medical treatment while the dead bodies have been deposited at Odogbo Cantonment Barrack’s Mortuary,” the FRSC Sector Commandant explained. (TRIBUNE)
