The late Ismail Abdulkarim
An articulated vehicle has reportedly crushed a young man, identified as Ismail Abdulkarim, to death shortly after he completed his final examinations at the Community Health Department of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah.
The incident occurred around the Felele area in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Eyewitnesses said the accident happened opposite Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Friday afternoon when Abdukarim allegedly attempted to avoid some wheelbarrow pushers along the road.
“Unfortunately, he fell under an oncoming trailer moving at high speed, resulting in a fatal head injury. He died instantly,” a source at the scene said.
A family source disclosed that the deceased was on his way to visit relatives at the other end of the city shortly after arriving in Lokoja from Idah, where he had just completed his final examinations.
A colleague mourned the deceased in an emotional tribute.
“After writing your final exams and heading to see your people, your life was cut short.
“It is really sad news. The entire Community Health Department has lost you. We all sat in class and wrote exams today, and now you are no longer alive. Rest in peace,” the colleague wrote.
The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) described the death of Abdukarim as heartbreaking and painful to the student community.
The NAKOSS President of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah chapter, Hassan Mustapha, said the deceased was a dedicated, humble and promising young man.
“Late Abdukarim was not only a dedicated student but also a humble, peaceful and promising young man whose life positively touched those around him,” he said.
The Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident.
He said the accident occurred around 5:28 p.m. on Friday opposite Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, involving a truck with registration number KMC 23 YQ.
Fagge said the victim sustained multiple injuries, including severe head trauma, adding that the corpse was deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy. (Daily Trust)
