The traditional ruler, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, has dismissed reports claiming a traditional curfew was imposed in Akure, describing the information as false and misleading.

The royal father spoke through a statement issued on Saturday in Akure by his Chief Press Secretary, Michael Adeyeye.

The Oba said no directive restricting movement or commercial activities had been announced by the traditional council.

“The traditional council wishes to state categorically that there is no traditional curfew in Akure. Such information is untrue and does not emanate from the palace,” he said.

He warned residents against relying on unverified messages circulating across social media and other informal communication channels.

He stated that the rumours were capable of creating fear, confusion and unnecessary tension among residents of Akure.

“We urge the general public to disregard such rumours, which are meant to cause unnecessary panic and unrest among residents of Akure,” the Deji said.

The traditional ruler assured residents that normal activities should continue without disruption, insisting that the town remained peaceful and secure.

“Members of the public should go about their lawful duties and businesses without any iota of fear,” he said.

The royal father also cautioned individuals spreading false information to desist immediately or risk facing legal and traditional consequences.

Oba Ogunlade stressed the importance of responsible communication, especially on matters affecting public peace and communal harmony.

He urged residents to verify sensitive information through official palace channels and relevant authorities before sharing such reports.

He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace, stability and unity across Akure and neighbouring communities.

Residents were also encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies in sustaining calm within the ancient city. (NAN)
