Cinematic wins at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), controversy around Ilebaye Odiniya, global milestones for Rema and Burna Boy, and Big Brother Naija have dominated the entertainment news.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria’s entertainment scene was defined by glamour, controversy, and global recognition.
At the AMVCA, Linda Ejiofor clinched Best Lead Actress, while Uzor Arukwe won Best Male Lead for his role in “Colours of Fire”.
Veteran actors including Nkem Owoh, Sanni Mu’azu, and Richard Mofe-Damijo were honoured with Industry Merit Awards for their enduring contributions.
Top-performing films such as “Colours of Fire”,“My Father’s Shadow”, “The Herd”, “Gingerrr”, and “To Kill a Monkey” dominated categories, reflecting Nollywood’s growing diversity and storytelling strength.
In a disturbing development, former Big Brother Naija All Stars winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, sparked outrage after an emotional Instagram live video allegedly showed her being assaulted by her father.
The live session, which captured the reality star pleading for help while visibly injured, drew widespread reactions, prompting swift intervention from authorities.
It heightened conversations around domestic violence.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest of her father, assuring the public that investigations were ongoing and that justice would be pursued.
On the global stage, Nigerian singer Rema is set to perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles on June 12.
Rema joins an international lineup including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, and Tyla at the global spectacle.
