Comr Ukueku with late Mene Ogidis mother during Sundays condolence visit in Warri
The National President of the Niger Delta Youth for Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, on Sunday led other prominent Niger Delta leaders on a condolence visit to the mother of the late Mene Ogidi in Warri, Delta State.
The visit follows the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, who was allegedly killed by ASP Nuhu Usman of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Effurun, near Warri. The incident, which was captured on video, showed the victim in handcuffs at the time of the shooting and has since sparked widespread public outrage.
In a statement personally signed by him, Comr. Ukueku disclosed that he joined friends and stakeholders from Udu Local Government Area to commiserate with the bereaved family.
“Today, we are not just here to mourn with the family; we are here in solidarity with them,” Comr. Ukueku stated.
According to him, the family confirmed that they were only allowed to see the corpse of their son on Saturday. He noted that the Nigeria Police Force has since dismissed ASP Nuhu Usman and withdrawn other officers involved, transferring them to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for disciplinary action. “The police have assured us that they are on top of the matter. I trust the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies. I believe there are still good officers among them, and justice must be served,” he added.
Comr. Ukueku appealed to all concerned persons, especially the youths of Warri and Udu, to remain steadfast and have faith in government intervention and the senior security officers handling the case. “Nobody should take the law into their own hands,” he warned.
He further urged the security agencies in charge of the investigation to carry out their duties diligently and transparently. “The investigation must be thorough and should cover every detail, from where the initial altercation was reported along the Warri–Sapele Expressway to the location in Effurun where the sad incident occurred.”
While commiserating with the Ogidi family, Comr. Ukueku encouraged the mother to stay strong and keep faith that justice will be served. He lamented that, according to the mother, this was not the first time she had lost a son under such tragic circumstances, and prayed that such an incident would never again befall the family.
Comr. Ukueku expressed appreciation to Hon. Henry Sakpra, APC House of Assembly aspirant for Udu LGA; Comr. O.D.S Akiko, and other Udu leaders who were in the term with him to support the family.
Using the opportunity, he appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to introduce routine mental health and psychological evaluations for its personnel. “The Nigeria Police has served this country with professionalism, but the few bad eggs tarnishing its image must be identified and reformed,” he said.
He commended everyone who has shown support to the family of the late Mene Ogidi. He also lauded the Delta State Government for condemning the incident and applauded the Inspector General of Police for his prompt intervention and the dismissal of the errant officer. “I believe in the IGP’s leadership and trust that he will facilitate a speedy process to ensure that justice is served,” Comr. Ukueku concluded.
