5 rescued from crashed Lagos plane

Five persons have been reportedly rescued from the Associated Airlines Flight 59BKN which crashed around 9:30 this morning in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos.

The charted Embraer aircraft was reportedly carrying about 20 and crashed around Concord Road in Mafoluku shortly after taking off from the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja.

The charted plane was said to be heading for Akure, the Ondo State capital, with the remains of Dr. Olusegun Agagu, a former governor of Ondo State, who died on September 13 and is scheduled to be buried this weekend.

Emergency services have moved to the site of the crash but Nigeria’s aviation authorities are yet to react to the accident.

A blog, papparazi.com.ng quotes Yakubu Datti, spokesman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), as confirming that five of the passengers had been rescued and taken to the hospital. He did not, however, give details.
