Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi
The Delta State Police Command has expressed grave concern over the activities of land grabbers in the state, warning aggrieved parties to seek civil redress in court rather than resorting to self-help.
The state Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, at his quarterly press briefing in Asaba, stated that the command would not tolerate any individual or group that employs violence in land grabbing activities.
According to him, the police would not get involved in land disputes or any civil matters, saying it is however the constitutional responsibility of the force to ensure the protection of life and property, and the maintenance of law and order.
On the upsurge in drug abuse, especially among youths, CP Oyeniyi said, “The command is equally concerned about the growing prevalence of drug abuse within our communities.
“Let me be clear. This command will continue to pursue, disrupt, and dismantle drug networks wherever they exist.
“We will sustain intelligence-led operations, strengthen collaboration with relevant agencies, and ensure that those involved in the distribution and abuse of illicit substances are brought to justice.”
The police boss reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to discipline, professionalism and accountability, adding that firm action would be taken against any officer whose conduct falls short of the standards expected of the profession.
Between January 2026 and the time of the briefing, the Commissioner said the command charged 455 cases to court and successfully prosecuted 205, stressing that 250 others are currently undergoing trial in various courts across the 25 local government areas in the state. (Nigerian Tribune)
