Lagos-based businessman and philanthropist, Hon Peter Ikuru
The Concerned Youth of Ughelli South Local Government Area Political Forum has called on Hon. Peter Ikuru to contest for the position of Chairman, Ughelli South Local Government Council.
In a statement issued over the weekend and signed by its Chairman, Comr. John Ambrose, the group said it was appealing to Hon. Ikuru, a Lagos-based businessman and philanthropist, to succeed the incumbent Chairman, Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre.
“Hon. Ikuru has never held any political office, yet he has been consistently supportive of the youth of Ughelli South,” Comr. Ambrose stated. “Since the chairmanship slot is still zoned to Ewu, we are appealing to the Delta State Governor to consider Hon. Peter Ikuru, an indigene of Arhavwarien in Ewu Ward 1, as a replacement for Hon. Dr. Avweromre.”
Concerns Over Youth Engagement
Comr. Ambrose further alleged that since Hon. Dr. Avweromre assumed office after Dr. Richard Kofi, the youth of Ewu have not been adequately engaged, unlike during Dr. Kofi’s tenure.
“Dr. Kofi engaged not only Olomu youth but also several Ewu youth. But since the chairmanship returned to Ewu under the current administration, the reverse has been the case,” he said.
Call for Change in 2027
The youth leader questioned the pattern of leadership selection in Ewu. “It appears that whenever the chairmanship is zoned to Ewu, only unpopular or ‘stingy’ individuals emerge. This time, we are appealing to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, to hearken to our plea and support Hon. Ikuru in the next local government election, instead of returning Hon. Avweromre,” Comr. Ambrose said.
He concluded by urging stakeholders to prioritize competent and youth-friendly leadership for the development of Ughelli South LGA.
