IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has been commended by a leading Southeast diaspora advocacy group, “Otunnawuike” for the recent promotion of a senior officer, Favour Uchenna Chinonyerem, to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP), as well as her subsequent appointment as the Musical Director at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, yesterday, President of the group, Dennis Mmaduekpe, described CP Chinonyerem’s dual elevation as a landmark recognition of excellence, discipline, and creative leadership within the Nigeria Police Force, adding that her promotion is particularly significant for serving in key federal security roles.
He said “Commissioner Favour Uchenna Chinonyerem has demonstrated uncommon professionalism and artistic brilliance”, adding that her appointment as Musical Director is not merely ceremonial, “it is a strategic use of talent for institutional transformation.”
Mmaduekpe further praised the IGP for what he called a “merit-based and visionary decision,” urging the police leadership to continue identifying specialised skills among officers for national development.
He stressed that Chinonyerem is known for blending security operations with musical proficiency and, now, oversees police band and ceremonial musical activities at the Force Headquarters, pointing out that her promotion to Commissioner of Police places her among the few female senior officers from the Southeast to attain that rank in recent years.
Moreso, the group noted that across the Southeast and South South zones, CP Chinonyerem has elevated police activities through the musical department.
The group concluded by reaffirming its support for reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, describing CP Chinonyerem’s rise as an inspiration to young women and youths across the globe. (The Sun)
