Abia State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic and untimely death of Kelechi Ejiofor, a trailer driver who was shot dead by a soldier at the Uratta Timber Market, Aba, at the weekend and has vowed to seek justice for the slain man.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, Government said the heartbreaking development has cast a shadow of grief across the state.
The statement revealed that the Abia State Government was actively engaging with the Military High Command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and subsequent death of the driver.
“We wish to assure the family of the deceased and the general public that justice will not only be pursued but will be seen to be done. Any officer found culpable will face the full weight of disciplinary and legal consequences.
“Abia State remains resolute in its duty to ensure that no act of injustice goes unanswered.”
While the Government extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and all those affected by the painful loss, it reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, the rule of law, and the fundamental rights of every citizen.
The Government urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful as it is intensifying efforts to get to the root of theunfortunate incident. (The Sun)
