A suspected leader of a notorious cult group has been arrested by operatives of Delta Shield attached to the Delta State Police Command.
The suspect, identified as Peter Onajite, aged 32, was intercepted on April 11 by the police while on surveillance patrol at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development in a statement on Monday, the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made double-barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, as well as sachets of suspected Tramadol.
He said that during the preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity.
The suspect is currently in custody while an investigation is ongoing, Edafe added.
In the same vein, on April 12, 2026, following a report of a suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama (now at large) and members of a cult group known as Aiye, operatives attached to Ibusa Police Station swiftly mobilised to Jordan Road, Ibusa.
Edafe, in the statement, said the operation led to the arrest of three suspects, including a female.
A search conducted at the premises resulted in the recovery of one English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and 39 firelighters.
The suspects are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, he said.
In his remarks, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that the police will continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other violent crimes. (The Sun)
