The Oyo State Police Command has clarified circumstances surrounding the reported abduction of Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe, disputing initial accounts that she was kidnapped on the road in Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred on April 8, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in the Bolumole area, off Ring Road in Ibadan.

According to police findings, the victim was not attacked while in transit as widely reported. Instead, she was allegedly trailed to her residence by armed assailants. The attackers reportedly struck as she arrived home and was attempting to gain entry into her premises.

“Four masked men accosted her at the gate and forcefully took her away in an unregistered black Lexus vehicle,” the statement noted. A family member present during the incident was left unharmed.

The Command disclosed that a report was filed shortly after the incident, prompting an immediate response. The case was escalated through the police control room to relevant tactical units, while detectives were deployed to the scene for preliminary assessment.

The police further confirmed that the crime scene has been forensically examined, with critical evidence recovered to aid ongoing investigations. Surveillance operations and intelligence gathering have also been intensified to track down the perpetrators and secure the victim’s safe release.

Reassuring residents, the police stated that all necessary resources have been mobilised to ensure swift action on the case.
