By IBIRONKE ARIYO
The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has ordered a probe following online reports alleging widespread extortion by personnel of the service on the Lagos-Seme border corridor.
Nandap, in a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) Mr Akinsola Akinlabi on Friday in Abuja, condemned alleged cases of extortion.
“This is unacceptable and contrary to its established standards and violates the core values, ethics, and operational guidelines of the Service,” Nandap said.
According to her, the service has taken immediate action by temporarily relieving the Comptrollers in charge of the affected Commands of their duties.
She also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incidents to identify all personnel involved and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures were promptly applied.
Nandap reassured the public of the service continued commitment to professionalism, transparency, and efficiency in the discharge of duties at all entry and exit points across the country.
The comptroller- general emphasised that the service would not tolerate any act capable of eroding public trust or undermining its institutional integrity.
She encouraged members of the public to report any form of misconduct through the NIS official communication channels, including its social media platforms: X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook, all under the handle @nigimmigration.
She also provided contact centre numbers — 09121900655, 09121556359, and 09121477092 — which were available 24 hours daily, as part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability mechanisms and enhance service delivery.
She reaffirmed the NIS’ resolve to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism while facilitating lawful migration in Nigeria. (NAN)
