The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike following a resolution reached at an emergency National Executive Council meeting.
The notice, signed by Dr. Israel Lissa, General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors FCTA, said the council reconvened virtually at 7:45 a.m. on April 7, 2026, where “the NEC unanimously resolved to suspend the total and indefinite NARD strike.”
The strike, which began at 12:00 a.m. on April 7, was halted after “last minute intervention of multi-ministerial stakeholders and the assurances of the restoration of professional allowances in April salary,” the statement said.
It directed that “all members are to resume work by 8:00 a.m. on 8th April 2026.”
The association added that it “remains fully committed to implementing the resolutions reached at our Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held yesterday.”
It further disclosed that the congress had resolved not to join the strike but instead issued “a three-week ultimatum to Management to address our demands,” noting that it would reconvene afterward to review progress.
