Gallant troops of the Nigerian Army during an operation
The Zamfara State government has confirmed that soldiers killed about 100 bandits, praising security agencies for their feat in the ongoing battle against insecurity.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, broke the news in a statement.
“This achievement is a clear demonstration of the renewed commitment, bravery, and professionalism of the security forces, who continue to put their lives on the line to safeguard communities across the state.
“The government recognises their sacrifices and dedication to restoring peace and stability in Zamfara State,’’ he said.
Dantawasa also said the state government notes that the success represents a significant step in dismantling criminal networks and eliminating banditry that has affected many parts of the state and it underscores the importance of maintaining this momentum to achieve lasting security.
“The government strongly encourages security personnel to remain resolute, vigilant, and steadfast in their operations. It assures them of its full confidence, as well as continued moral and logistical support, urging them not to relent until every corner of the state is safe and secure for all citizens. Dantawasa said.
The Zamfara State government also reaffirms its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Government and relevant security stakeholders.
Also, the Katsina Police Command says suspected bandits have killed two civilians and a police officer during attacks on the Karadua-Musawa Road in Matazu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Sunday when bandits blocked the road and opened fire on a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, killing two occupants.
According to a statement in Katsina yesterday by the command’s spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, security operatives responded to the attack.
He said a team comprising police personnel, military operatives, members of the state Community Watch Corps and vigilantes was mobilised to the scene following a distress report.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, said additional operational assets had been deployed to the affected area to strengthen security and forestall further attacks.
The commissioner also ordered an investigation aimed at tracking down and arresting the perpetrators. (Text, excluding headline: The Nation)
