Scene of the truck accident
No fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead and two others seriously injured in a fatal motor accident along the Suleja–Lambata road in Niger State.
Security sources said the accident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on April 4 at Gwachipe Hill, involving a Volvo tipper truck loaded with iron rods and carrying passengers.
The truck, with registration number ANC 656 XA, was reportedly driven by Adamu Atiku, a native of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, and was travelling from Abuja to Lagos.
According to the sources, the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve and overturn in the middle of the road.
The impact led to the iron rods being dislodged and falling on the passengers onboard.
Ten passengers, yet to be identified, were said to have died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.
The corpses and injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital, Sabon-Wuse, for autopsy and medical treatment.
Authorities said investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. (Zagazola)
