Bayelsa State PPRO, Musa Muhammed
A 20-year-old woman identified simply as Blessing, has been killed by a stray bullet in Amassoma, Bayelsa State.
It was learnt on Sunday that the incident occurred on Thursday, April 2, when suspected cultists attempted to attack a young man at a laundry shop in the community.
A police source who preferred anonymity as he was not authorised to speak on the incident, told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that the intended target reportedly sighted the assailants and tried to flee, prompting the gunmen to open fire.
A stray bullet was said to have missed the fleeing victim and struck Blessing in the process.
“Suspected cultists were attempting to attack a young man but immediately he saw them, he ran away.
“They immediately started shooting at him. One of the bullets missed him and hit Blessing. She just came back from church.”
Another source who was familiar with the incident said Blessing died on the spot.
"She died shortly after the incident. Another man was also injured and later treated,” the source disclosed.
When contacted on Sunday, the Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident.
He said, “The lady was rushed to the hospital, where she later died. Investigation is ongoing into the incident.” (The PUNCH)
