Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has announced her immediate resignation from her position.
The resignation comes as a surprise to many, given her relatively short tenure in the role.
Onyejeocha, in a statement released via her official X handle, said, “It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation.
“This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration.”
Onyejeocha, who was appointed to the position in August 2023, cited her desire for a new beginning as the reason for her departure.
“This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve.”
During her tenure, Onyejeocha was instrumental in pushing for reforms in the labour sector, particularly in the areas of job creation and workers’ welfare.
Her resignation is expected to have significant implications for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, which has been working to address the country’s high unemployment rate.
Prior to her appointment as Minister of State for Labour, Onyejeocha served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. (Saturday PUNCH)
