Jos community attacked by gunmen
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has condemned the killing of residents in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, calling for urgent investigation and improved security measures.
In a press release issued in Abuja and signed by its Executive Director, Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, the organisation described the attack as a violation of human rights and urged authorities to act swiftly.
“FENRAD strongly condemns the recent attacks and killings of innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba Community… These barbaric acts… represent a grave violation of human rights and the sanctity of human life,” the statement read.
The group said the incident has heightened fear among residents and reflects recurring security concerns in the area.
“We express deep outrage over the senseless violence unleashed on vulnerable residents, resulting in tragic loss of lives, injuries, and heightened fear within the community,” FENRAD stated.
FENRAD called on security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure accountability for those responsible.
“The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay. Ending impunity is essential to restoring confidence and ensuring lasting peace,” Nwafor said.
The organisation also urged the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to strengthen security architecture in affected communities.
“We call for strengthened security presence in Angwan Rukuba and other vulnerable communities across Jos North LGA, as well as improved intelligence gathering and early warning mechanisms,” the statement added.
It further appealed for humanitarian assistance to victims and dialogue-driven solutions to address underlying tensions.
“Provide immediate humanitarian support to affected families… and promote peaceful coexistence through inclusive dialogue and community-based conflict resolution initiatives,” FENRAD said.
Reiterating its position, the group said the protection of lives and property remains a primary responsibility of government.
“The protection of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government at all levels and must be treated with the utmost seriousness,” it stated.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official update on arrests or investigations related to the incident as of press time, even as calls for accountability continue.
