COAS Shaibu and Gov Mutfwang
In a bid to contain escalating tensions and restore lasting peace in parts of Plateau State, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional troops to reinforce Operation Enduring Peace.
The fresh deployment, which involves over 850 soldiers drawn from formations in Abuja and Kaduna, is aimed at bolstering existing forces in de-escalating volatile situations, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of law-abiding residents across affected communities.
Addressing troops at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace in Jos, the COAS charged them to remain professional, disciplined, and firm while dealing decisively with criminal elements disrupting public peace.
A statement on Thursday signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, said that the army chief assured the personnel that adequate logistics and combat enablers had been provided to enable them to execute their mandate effectively.
The reinforcement comes amid persistent security concerns in the state, with the new troops tasked specifically with safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining law and order.
