Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon Ademola Aderinto
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, has alerted residents to expect heavy rainfall in the coming days, especially on the evening of March 31, 2026, based on information from the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency.
He explained that the advisory reflects the gradual start of the rainy season, with Ibadan likely to witness intense downpours. While no major flooding is expected in key areas, residents are advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
The Commissioner stressed that the notice is strictly a rainfall advisory and should not be mistaken for a flood warning. He urged the public to avoid spreading panic or false alarms about flooding.
According to him, the advisory simply indicates that certain areas may experience heavy rain, and residents should stay calm while observing safety measures.
He also advised individuals, especially those who travel long distances to work, to plan their movements ahead of time and reach their destinations before the rains begin to avoid being stranded.
Residents were further encouraged to properly secure windows and property before leaving their homes or offices.
He assured the public that relevant government agencies will continue to provide timely updates to ensure safety throughout the rainy season. (Nigerian Tribune)
