Armed bandits
Bandits have attacked Dangoro village in Nahuce Ward, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing three persons, abducting an unspecified number of residents, and burning houses and food stores.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community on Sunday night, shooting sporadically and wreaking havoc.
They alleged that a nine-month pregnant woman was among those affected, while several others sustained injuries.
The exact number of abducted persons is yet to be confirmed, though victims said most of those taken were women.
The attackers were also said to have set several houses and grain silos on fire, forcing many residents to flee Dangoro for safety in nearby Nahuche town.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the community remains in fear following threats by the assailants to return.
“As I am speaking now, we are yet to ascertain the number of people kidnapped, but the majority of those kidnapped were mainly women,” he said.
He called on the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government to intensify security operations in the area, noting that residents were living in fear.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar.
He said the incident occurred on 28 March 2026 at about 10:30 pm when armed bandits, carrying AK-47 rifles, invaded Dangoro village via Nahuche District, shooting sporadically and setting houses and silos ablaze.
“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of Police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene. The team engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the criminals to flee into the bush with possible gunshot injuries,” he said.
He added that three persons were killed during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard, while five persons sustained gunshot injuries and four others suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.
“All the injured victims have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively,” he said.
DSP Yazid further stated that the attackers also burnt several houses, silos containing food grains, and livestock, including goats.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, assured residents of the command’s commitment to tracking down the perpetrators and restoring calm, urging continued cooperation with security agencies. (Daily Trust)
