Ghana have sacked head coach Otto Addo with 72 days remaining until the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the country’s football association confirmed on Tuesday.
The decision followed a 2–1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart during preparations for the tournament, coming days after a heavy 5–1 loss in Austria.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo effective immediately,” it said in a statement.
Addo, a former Borussia Dortmund player, was appointed for a second stint in March 2024 but failed to qualify Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite having Premier League players Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus in his squad.
The 50-year-old recorded 8 wins and 9 defeats in 22 matches in charge of the Black Stars.
Addo previously led Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the team secured a 3–2 win over South Korea but exited at the group stage following defeats to Portugal and Uruguay.
Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, are drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, England and Panama. (Arise News)
