Brazilian Man UTD midfielder Casemiro
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the current season when his contract expires, reaffirming a decision first announced by the club in January.
The 34-year-old Brazilian spoke to the press following Brazil’s 2-1 friendly defeat to France in Boston, United States, on Thursday and told The Athletic there would be no U-turn on his departure.
When asked directly if he had changed his mind about leaving, Casemiro said, “I’m still very happy in Manchester, but I think the announcement is now official. I truly believe the decision has been made and is final.”
He added, “I’m enjoying myself at the moment. I think there will be some emotionally difficult moments in these final matches at Manchester United.”
United confirmed Casemiro’s exit in a club statement on January 22, stating he would depart upon the expiry of his current deal after four seasons at Old Trafford.
During that time, he has made 146 appearances and scored 21 goals, winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
The club and player later agreed to waive a contractual clause that would have triggered a 12-month extension had he started 35 Premier League matches this season, allowing him to feature in the remaining games without committing to another year.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 and has been a key figure in the midfield, though his departure forms part of the club’s ongoing squad rebuild. (Saturday Sun)
