Immediate past Kano Dep Gov Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has explained that his decision to resign from office was driven by the need to ensure peace, stability and smooth governance in the state.
Gwarzo, in a letter dated March 27, 2026, addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said his resignation was voluntary and made in good faith.
“I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions,” he stated.
The former deputy governor said the decision followed wide consultations and deep reflection on the prevailing political situation in the state.
According to him, the move should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing, but rather a conscious effort to protect institutional integrity and uphold democratic values.
“This resignation is made voluntarily and should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but a decision in the interest of public service,” he added.
Gwarzo hinged his resignation on Section 306(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which allows public office holders to step down from their positions.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Kano State for the opportunity to serve, as well as to the governor, members of the State Executive Council, the Kano State House of Assembly, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), traditional institutions, and other stakeholders for their support during his tenure.
Garwzo's resignation comes amid ongoing political and legal tensions surrounding the office of the deputy governor in Kano State as the State House of Assembly had begun impeachment process against Gwarzo. (Weekend Trust)
