Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, presented land allocation documents to members of the FCT Council of Chiefs during a meeting in Abuja on Friday.
Wike announced a total waiver of all statutory fees for the land titles, acting on instructions from President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the administration recognises the historical presence of indigenous people in the FCT. “We cannot deny the fact that there are indigenous people who were here before the creation of the FCT,” he said.
“The President said we must extend a hand of fellowship to you. If those who make peace cannot be appreciated with land, who should be?”
Wike, who noted that the waiver applies to land the rulers have inhabited for generations, commended the monarchs for their role in the Area Council elections, which he described as the most peaceful in the territory’s history. He promised utility vehicles for traditional rulers in the FCT.
The minister listed infrastructure projects nearing completion in satellite towns for commissioning in June: Airport–Kuje road dualisation, Bwari–Zuba link road, Apo/Karshi, Basan Jiwa, and the “Arab Road” network.
FCT Council of Chiefs Chairman and Ona of Abaji, Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Baba Yunusa, thanked President Tinubu and Wike and pledged continued support for the administration’s policies. (The Sun)
