A staunch supporter of the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, and the 2023 governorship candidate of the party in Kano State, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, is on his way to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
This is just as it was gathered that President Bola Tinubu is putting pressure on Gawuna to thwart his alleged plan to defect to the Kwankwasiyya movement and eventually join the ADC.
Findings by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that Gawuna had recently been in touch with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He had visited him at his country road located at Miller Road.
Also, in one of the videos trending on social media, which was seen by the Nigerian Tribune, Kwankwaso was seen praising the former deputy governor of Kano State, Gawuna.
In the said video, Kwankwaso described Gawuna as “one of my respected commissioners”. He was loyal and even when he deputised for Ganduje, he never ceased to give me my due respect. Even when he was asked to sign the protest form against our party’s victory (NNPP) in 2023, he refused to sign. This is to show you the character of Gawuna.
The agitation intensified during the just-concluded Eid-el-fitr when a delegation led by the Imam of Gawuna’s mosque, Ahmed Sabo Usman, paid Sallah homage to Kwankwaso at his residence in Kano.
Kwankwaso told the delegation that Gawuna is welcome to Kwankwassiya movement, a statement that made political pundits believe that Gawuna is on his way to align with the Kwankwaso.
Also, an analyst Aminu Bashir, noted that a Gawuna–Kwankwaso alliance would be devastating for the APC to handle.
According to Bashir, a staunch member of APC in the state, added, “If Kwankwaso hands him Gawuna governorship ticket, it’s game changer because Gawuna commands huge support among youths, clerics and the business community.”
Sources remarked that despite polling over 800,000 votes in the 2023 governorship race, Gawuna has been sidelined by the party.
Findings revealed that he thought his principal, Abdullahi Ganduje will influence his ministerial appointment but all he got was a member of one of the Federal government agencies.
Piqued by this new development, findings gathered that APC stakeholders are trying to reach Gawuna, but to no avail.
The development has unsettled the Kano APC, prompting Governor Abba Yusuf to reportedly reach out to President Tinubu to help dissuade Mr. Gawuna from leaving the party. (TRIBUNE)
