The new Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Hope Okafor, has expressed concern over rising incidence of homicide in the state.

In a statement signed by the police spokesperson in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, the Commissioner appealed to the people of the state to refrain from taking law into their hands and promptly report grievances to the nearest police station.

She emphasised that murder is not only a capital offence but also a grave crime against humanity.

She reaffirmed her open-door policy and urged members of the public to come forward with complaints, assuring them of prompt attention.

The Commissioner’s concern came against the backdrop of the arraignment of a 32 year old man in the state, Oforbuike Damian before the court on Thursday for stabbing her aged mother to death.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect committed the act following her mother’s refusal to take him to a place where he could bathe, after which he could acquire powers to make wealth and for misplacing his bag which he uses to go to the market.

Before his arraignment, the police also charged Onyebuchi Eze (m), Eze Nwuke (m), Oko Odinaka Emmanuel (m), and Uchenna Ota (m) to court for alleged involvement in murder cases. (The Sun)
