Chairmen of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the states and the Federal Capital Territory have reaffirmed their loyalty to the union’s leadership under Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, amid lingering internal disputes.

The endorsement came during a meeting held at the union’s national headquarters, against the backdrop of renewed tensions following what officials described as a failed attempt by a rival faction to seize control of the body.

In a show of solidarity, the state chairmen described MC Oluomo as a dependable and forward-looking leader, pledging continued support for his administration.

Speaking on behalf of the union, General Secretary Kayode Agbeyangi accused the faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa of masterminding violence and destruction at the national secretariat in August 2023.

Agbeyangi alleged that the group looted property, vandalized facilities, and attempted to destabilize the union’s structure.

He disclosed that the leadership had compiled detailed records of events and financial transactions from August 2023 to date, including ongoing court proceedings, and submitted the documents to security agencies, relevant authorities, and the Federal Ministry of Labour.

According to him, several cases cited as victories by the rival faction remain pending in court, noting that no enforcement orders have been granted. He added that the union has filed appeals and secured a stay of execution in these matters.

Also speaking, National Financial Secretary Comrade Uwem James traced the roots of the crisis to disputed congresses and delegate conferences dating back to 2019.

He alleged that the processes were characterized by widespread irregularities, including manipulation of outcomes and disregard for court orders.

James further claimed that the 2023 delegate conference disenfranchised members across various regions, prompting multiple legal challenges, many of which are still pending before the courts.

Other union officials maintained that the current leadership remains committed to due process, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law, urging members and the public to rely on verified records as the legal battle continues. (Vanguard)
