Yira Sor, winger of Belgian club KRC Genk, has expressed excitement over his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles, describing it as a dream come true.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sor, an indigene of Rivers State, was named in a 23-man squad by Head Coach Eric Chelle for two international friendly matches in Turkey.
The fixtures were moved from Amman to Antalya following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.
Nigeria will face Iran on Friday at 4 p.m., before taking on Jordan on March 31 at 8 p.m. in Antalya.
Sor said he was eager to contribute positively to the team with his playing style and attributes.
“I am a player with pace and I enjoy link-up play. I hope to bring energy and creativity to the team,” he said.
The winger added that he was committed to helping the team achieve success in the upcoming matches.
“I want to give my best and contribute to the team’s objectives.
“Every opportunity matters at this level,” Sor said.
Reflecting on his journey, Sor said the call-up came as a surprise after recently supporting the team during the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Just a few months ago, I was watching the team on television, feeling nervous and cheering them on.
“My invitation is unexpected but rewarding; I attribute it to hard work and faith.
“To be honest, it was a big shock. I am grateful for the opportunity and thankful for how far I have come,” he said.
He emphasised the honour of representing Nigeria, pledging full commitment to the national team.
“Playing for a country of over 200 million people is a privilege. I will give everything on the pitch.
“I assure fans of my determination to maximise the opportunity and justify the confidence reposed in me.
“I will push myself to the limit and make sure I contribute positively whenever I am called upon,” he said.
NAN also reports that 22 players are currently in camp at the Bellis Deluxe Hotel in Antalya, preparing for the friendlies.
The team held its first training session at 4 p.m. local time, with all available players participating actively.
Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said the session focused on fitness drills, ball circulation and pressing exercises.
Efoghe added that another training session would be held later on Thursday on the grass pitch at the Bellis Deluxe facility in Antalya.(NAN)
