In the wake of national outrage over the alleged mass sexual assault during a fertility festival in Ozoro, Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), has pledged a coordinated legal crackdown on the suspects.

Ohwovoriole led a high-level delegation to the State Police Headquarters in Asaba, where he met with the Commissioner of Police (CP), Aina Adesola, to firm up plans for the prosecution of suspects already arrested in connection with the incident.

The meeting comes days after disturbing reports emerged from Ozoro, Isoko North Local Council, where scores of women were allegedly sexually assaulted during what should have been a cultural celebration.

Ohwovoriole, during the visit, commended the police for their “swift response” in restoring calm after the attacks, while assuring that the state government would provide the legal backing necessary to ensure diligent prosecution of offenders.

“We are committed to ensuring that all those found culpable are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This is not just about justice for the victims, but about sending a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated,” he said.

In his response, CP Adesola reiterated the command’s commitment to justice, revealing that he had personally visited Ozoro to engage community stakeholders and oversee the investigation.

He added that the police had been directed to fast-track prosecution the case and ensure that suspects are promptly charged.

“We have taken decisive steps to identify and apprehend those involved. The investigation team has been tasked with ensuring swift prosecution. The command remains resolute in seeing this through,” Adesola said. (The Guardian)
