Ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders has vowed to resist electoral rigging and all forms of malpractice during the polls.
The group, described as the apex socio-political youth body in the South-East geopolitical zone, said the people of the region would not tolerate any form of manipulation or subversion of their democratic will.
The coalition, In a statement issued on Sunday by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, delivered what it described as an uncompromising message to political actors, institutions, and stakeholders across the country.
Ibem stated that any attempt by individuals, political parties, or institutions to tamper with the electoral process would be met with lawful, collective, and resolute resistance.
“The era where votes are stolen and mandates imposed against the will of the people is over. Our people are politically conscious, vigilant, and prepared to defend their votes within the ambit of the law,” he said.
The group stressed that performance, not propaganda, would determine electoral outcomes in 2027, insisting that only leaders with credible track records, accountability, and commitment to public welfare would earn the mandate of the people.
“Those who have used public office to oppress, neglect, or exploit the people must prepare to be voted out decisively,” the statement added.
COSEYL also called on eligible voters across the South-East to fulfil their civic responsibilities by obtaining and safeguarding their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“The PVC is not just a card — it is the most powerful tool for shaping our future and securing accountable leadership,” Ibem said.
The coalition further urged the electorate to remain peaceful, vigilant, and united before, during, and after the elections, while rejecting inducements, intimidation, and any attempt to compromise their votes.
“Let it be known that power resides with the people. That is the true essence of democracy, and we will defend it,” the statement added. (Sunday Tribune)
