Rivers State CP Olugbenga Adepoju
The police have cracked a murder plot and unearthed a shallow grave in Rivers State, leading to a dramatic turn in a murder case.
The suspect has confessed and implicated the alleged mastermind as a manhunt widens.
According to Rivers State Police Command, a significant breakthrough has been made in the investigation of the murder of Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, a 42-year-old man from Umuemeshie Community in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Council.
The Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that detectives from the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex, arrested 29-year-old Robinson Uche on March 6, 2026, after weeks of intelligence gathering.
During interrogation, Uche confessed to his role in the killing and provided details of how the crime was carried out.
He revealed that he and four others were contracted to bring the victim to Chief Elijah Okere’s residence on December 17, 2025.
The other suspects are currently at large.
However, the plan went wrong when the group tried to apprehend the victim at a family meeting, resulting in the victim’s death.
The group then transported the body to a remote bush in Ekerre-Ugbor, and buried it in a shallow grave to conceal the crime.
The police, acting on Uche’s confession, exhumed the decomposed body from the site.
The body has been deposited at the military hospital mortuary for autopsy while forensic experts are working to gather more details about the death.
The police have also continued their efforts to track down the remaining suspects and uncover the full circumstances of the death, as well as the role of the alleged sponsor.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured the residents that the Command would bring all those involved to justice.
He stated: “The Command is fully committed to ensuring that no stone is left unturned in this investigation. All individuals connected to this crime will be apprehended and made to face the law.” (The Guardian)
