The Nyesom Wike-backed National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the Ogun State executive of the party.

The National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) hereby announces the dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect.

“The party appreciates the members of the dissolved State Executive Committee for their services and contributions to the growth and development of the party in Ogun State,” Mohammed said in the statement.

While he was silent on the reason for the dissolution of the party officials, he disclosed that “a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state will be announced shortly.”

But the state executive kicked against the development, describing it as the figment of some individuals’ imagination.

“The author of the source news clearly lacks the required constitutional backing to issue such laughable communication,” the state chairman, Abayomi Tella, said in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Tella said, “We make bold to say that the news of the purported dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee is just another despicable attempt by some idle minds to sow a seed of discord in the PDP family in Ogun State.

“The purported dissolution can only exist in the figment of some individuals’ imagination. The author of the source news clearly lacks the required constitutional backing to issue such laughable communication.

“For the umpteenth time, the current Ogun State PDP Executive, under the able watch and chairmanship of Hon. Dr. Abayomi Tella, which was elected and inaugurated on September 24, 2024, remains the only legitimate organ of our great party in Ogun State as recognised and ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.”

He urged all party members, supporters, and the general public to shun “any noticeable attempt to divert the coordinated attention of the party in Ogun State from the task of sustaining its growing acceptability in the state.”

He added that the party’s progress in Ogun State will not be “derailed, and any calculated attempt by any agent provocateur or group of dissidents to cause disaffection within our ranks will be vehemently resisted by all lawful means possible.” (Daily Trust)
