A content creator known as Darkskinned.ella has accused the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) supervisor overseeing operations in Ikorodu of assault.

The young lady, who is known for creating content on her daily commute to work, said she left her house early to hop on the next BRT vehicle.

She claimed the queue was very long with no BRT in sight, and time was fast running when she started making videos, before the bus supervisor attacked her.

In a video circulating online, the bus official was heard telling her to “stop making videos and go back to the lane, otherwise I’d seize your phone and tell your father to buy bus”.

Tension later rose, and led to a full-blown argument between both parties, leading to different reactions from people on social media.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), while acknowledging the challenges faced by commuters, advised content creators to be mindful of existing privacy laws when creating and sharing content on public transport.

“Content creators are therefore urged to respect the privacy of passengers and obtain appropriate consent where necessary. LAMATA will not be held responsible for any breach of commuters’ privacy resulting from content created or published by third parties,”

On the concerns over inadequate buses for commuters, the agency stated, “We appreciate the feedback provided, as it helps strengthen our regulatory oversight and improve service delivery across the regulated public transport system.

“LAMATA recognises the increasing demand for additional buses across the network. This surge is largely driven by the relatively affordable and reliable services available within the regulated public transport system.

“LAMATA is actively working with private sector partners to accelerate the introduction of more buses into the system,” it added.

Launched in 2008, one of the key attractions of the BRT, which serves millions of Lagos residents daily, is its relatively low cost.

With the e-ticketing system, commuters could pay low fares depending on distance, making it an accessible option for many residents.

The introduction of electronic ticketing also improved the boarding process because passengers no longer needed to struggle for change or cash payments, making travel faster and more convenient. (Channels TV)
